Future Proofing Cities Toolkit

When given the opportunity to design a toolkit for Craig Applegath’s RESILIENT CITY talk, I didn’t want a typical 8.5x11 document—I wanted it to be participatory; a set of cards that could facilitate discussion in future workshops.

Future Proofing Cities offers 6 strategies, a worksheet and resources to help cities develop capacities to absorb future shocks and stresses. Planners from across Canada gathered in Banff, AB for the annual Canadian Institute of Planners Conference using the toolkit to share thoughts on turning ideas into action, and exploring strategies to build and enhance communities’ capacity for resilience.

Each card is double-sided (in a DIALOG brand colour)—one side text, the opposite a visual diagram. Designed a custom diecut folder, secured with a red elastic and promo pin/button.

I am very grateful to a great many individuals who have been directly or indirectly very helpful in bringing this toolkit into being. Thanks particularly should go to: KAREN NG-HEM—for her masterful graphic design of this toolkit, which would not have been possible without her.

“Karen, I would like to thank you again for all of your ideas and creativity on this project. I’m not sure I will be able to do it justice tomorrow in my lecture, but I will certainly try. I am so proud to be able to hand out the toolkit. It is just so cool!”
